Love is a Verb
Love is a Verb
The Subject today is love.
John 4:16 tells us that God is Love.
What does it mean that God is love?
Love is an attribute of God; a core aspect of His character.
Keep in mind that God’s love is in no sense in conflict with His holiness, righteousness, justice, or even His wrath.
Everything God does is loving, just as everything He does is just and right. As we move from verses 7 and 8 there is a transition from Defining God’s Love to the Manifestation of God’s Love.
I spent last week defining God’s love. Today I want to look at the manifestation of God’s love:
God’s love caused Jesus to absorb the wrath that I deserved! It is is love that caused him to go to the cross and receive the judgement that was mine!
If you want to see the love of God this new week - Look at Jesus on the cross! This is Holy week. Everything God does is loving! everything.
So think with me about this thought: THE MANIFESTATION OF GOD’S LOVE is seen in Jesus Christ
Let me read v9-10
To understand love correctly, we must see that love originates as a noun but it produces verbs in our lives that reach out and touch others.
Here is a statement of truth that we should reflect upon this week: Love is a noun but it necessitates a verb
Every time that noun becomes a verb in your life, God’s love touches somebody.
If a noun becomes a verb someone somewhere is impacted for the good of the kingdom.
At school, Think about your life: one day we will return to work. Maybe your still able to work: How can you even in this crisis turn love into a verb and infect those around you with God’s goodness?
There in your neighborhood where you live, the love of God should become a verb.
An act of Jesus in you that the unbelieving world would not expect. The love of God should become a verb at some point today in your life. When you go to buy those groceries… Maybe a kind act in the parking lot today on your way to your car.
An expression of the Love of God. A Noun becoming a verb. Love is a verb.
That means that every Christian today is a noun that needs to be "verb"alized. What happens when a noun becomes a verb?
THE MANIFESTATION OF GOD’S LOVE is seen in you and me!
Whenever we express God's love others around us are impacted:
1 John 4:11 is so clear: Dear friends, since God so loved us, we ought to love one another!
Do you know what I am to do with the Love of God? LOVE others! I am to take that love and and i am to love others! They are different than we are: LOVE! They believe different: LOVE! But they are out to hurt me: Listen to this word: LOVE!
We are called upon to love them anyway - we are to love like Jesus, love our enemies. do good to those who harm us.
In Matthew 22:37-39 the Greatest Commandment is to love God and the Second is to love our neighbors.
The love of God will not be a verb until you love your neighbor!
John says No-one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God’s love is in us and made complete in us. It is manifested in us!
Read down to verse 17…
As we live this "verb"alized Christian life we gain confidence of our salvation. How cool is that that these things work together to reassure us of the great gift of faith?
